- Description
- La Gazza Ladra is a two act "opera semiseria" first performed in 1817. It is best known for its Overture. This familiar piece has been used many times in various settings from Disney cartoons to Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange".
Written for full orchestra, I have reduced it to the five voices of a Woodwind Quintet. I believe that I have kept the richness of the entire piece while preserving it's sense of frivolity.
While the Overture to "La Gazza Ladra" is best known for its use of the snare drum, I have found that snares are devilishly rare among Woodwind Quintets. If, however, your group has a spare percussionist (or even an out-of-work brother-in-law) please email me and I will send you a version with the snare included. My email is on the score and each part.
I hope you will enjoy playing this piece.
