- Description
- At the age of 16, young Wolfgang was being dragged from Salzburg to Italy by his father, hoping to learn Italian opera. While in Italy, Mozart took a few minutes to write this little Divertimento. It is light and entertaining and, overall, fun to play. It does seem a little heavy on repeats, but I will leave it up to the performer as to whether to use them or not.
It is always my goal when arranging for Woodwind Quintet that the finished sound imitate the original. In the Divertimento No. 2 I was presented with a particular challenge. It is scored for strings, flute, oboe, bassoon and 4 horns. Since Woodwind Quintets only use 1 horn, I needed to improvise with clarinet and bassoon. I think it worked out well. I hope you agree.
